The Belgian Federal Public Service (FPS) Justice has selected ML6 to assist in anonymizing, automatically categorizing, and summarizing judicial rulings.
16 September 2023— Ghent-based ML6 is tasked with making the Belgian Federal Public Service of Justice more transparent and efficient. Among other things, this involves using AI in the processing of court rulings.
This collaboration aims to digitalize approximately 1.2 million court decisions annually, significantly enhancing the transparency and efficiency of judicial processes.
ML6’s AI technology automatically tags lengthy and complex legal rulings, enabling lawyers, academics, and judges to find relevant cases efficiently. This supports consistent and better-informed decisions. The AI also summarizes long documents to make the essence more accessible, helping justice stakeholders and businesses save time and costs.
A critical innovation is pseudonymization—an AI technique that detects and transforms personal data to anonymize rulings before public release, complying with GDPR. This approach increases judicial transparency, enhances public trust, and allows detailed analysis of legal trends to inform better policymaking.
Nicolas Deruytter, CEO of ML6, emphasizes the alignment with European ambitions to boost judicial digitalization and transparency, aiming to extend this successful model across the EU.
