The Belgian Ministry of Justice is leveraging artificial intelligence technology supplied by ML6 to digitalize judicial rulings.

14 September 2023- This initiative aims to anonymize, automatically categorize, and summarize approximately 1.2 million court decisions annually. The project is designed to improve transparency, accelerate legal research, and boost the overall efficiency of judicial processes.

By tagging complex and lengthy rulings, the AI system helps legal professionals and academics efficiently identify relevant cases, facilitating better and more consistent judicial decisions. Summarization tools enable quicker understanding of extensive documents, saving time and reducing workload.

A significant element is pseudonymization, which removes or obscures personal data to protect privacy while ensuring rulings can be shared publicly under GDPR compliance. This innovation bolsters trust in the judicial system and aids in analyzing legal trends for policy development.

ML6’s CEO, Nicolas Deruytter, notes this project aligns with broader European ambitions to foster judicial digitalization and enhance transparency across member states.
